The No.1 thing you never want to say when you're travelling: “I didn't see that coming. Oops.”
We've all been there – you do your homework, find out where you're going, how you're going to get there, what you're going to do there... And off you go, and you're happily moseying along on your travels, when suddenly, something happens. Something completely out of the blue. Something you didn't see coming. It's a waste of time at best, and at worst can lead to some not very pleasant situations. You think, “How did I not know about that? Why did no one tell me?” It is with this in mind that we are introducing Travel Articles to hostelmania. Odd little eccentricities of a country catch people out all the time. After all, how can you do as Rome does when you are in Rome when you have no idea what Rome does? So here we have a series of guidelines for various places, giving a few hints, tips, and sometimes plain explanations, to help you on your trip. This is a new page, so we'll be adding articles on a regular basis. Just a few things you probably haven't thought about. Consider it our heads up to you.

Contributions and Submissions
If you're a writer, or think you'd like to write, or are just burning to tell the world about the amazing place you went to, we'd be happy to receive travel articles like the ones we have up here. I'm afraid we don't pay for contributions, but we'll happily credit you on the article, and you retain the ownership of your work so if someone else wants to publish it they can do so.
Here are some basic guidelines; please follow these, because we can't publish stuff that doesn't.
- Only send us articles on places that AREN'T already on the site. Not to question your common sense, or anything, but you'd be surprised.
- Articles are generally between four and eight pages long. Try and stick to this. We appreciate that some places have more to write about than others.
- We tend to break the articles down into sections. Have a look at how we do it, and aim for something similar.
- Please keep it clean!
We will edit articles if we reckon they require it, but usually just in terms of grammar and spelling. If any big changes need to be made but we still want to put it up, we'll email you.
And we'll email you if we do put your article up, obviously! |
